This Amazing Land, South Africa
It is so exciting to live in this beautiful country. This country
of contrasts and cultures. This place of beauty and learning. This
paradise of lessons.
Many of the World's people reside in perfectly orchestrated and
managed countries where nothing unusual happens. Places where thinking
is limited by the very regimented society in which they reside.
Walk here. Don't walk there. You will be fined if you do this.
Queue here. Stand there. In order. This fork. That knife. All
think this way. Fit in by doing this.
In these modern societies there is no place for original thinkers.
Like Nelson Mandela, Edison, Ghandi. Like Mother Theresa, Beethoven,
or Desmond Tutu. All is logic, all is accepted prior knowledge and
if it cannot be understood it, it cannot be!
"Prove it", is the cry! "Get scientific opinion".
"Show us how it is done!"
My little son Lliam was born just eight weeks ago. I understand
the processes that parents go through to create a new life. But
I just cannot find a scientist who can tell me how, and at what
point, the spark of Human Life is inserted into a child. It will
never be proven, or subjected to a logical process. It is simply
the greatest miracle of all time.
Now I have a lot of respect for miracles. I believe that when
we are given a gift of the miracle of Life, we have a responsibility
to that Life. Luckily Arthie and I have twice received such a gift.
Our own and Lliam's.
As Lliam is a miracle, so too are you. So too is the person next
to you. You too have responsibilities and so do I. Our responsibilites
extend beyond our own life to those of all of the people of the
World.
Another miracle is the gift of life given to South Africa by our
leaders after 1990. They worked a miracle that drove our country
onto Clem Sunter's High Road. A miracle that has seen our land go
from a potential disaster to a diverse and reasonably unified land.
Politicians of different religions, cultures, political backgrounds,
thinking styles,
personality types, skin colours, ages and education profiles came
together to manufacture a workable peace.
There was no proven model to work from. There was no prior knowledge.
There was no scientific explanation. It was simply a miracle. Each
one of us - you included - formed a part of the miracle of the re-birth
of South Africa. Well done!
That miracle was born of our diversity. It was born of our humanity
and humanness. It was born of our powerful committed desire to make
a positive difference. It was born of our common and powerful focus.
it's parents were Apartheid and the Freedom Movement, and we are
the children.
Yes, I love this country. It is truly exciting to live here!
We are an example to the World. As in all examples, the first
example can be improved. We are not perfect. That is even more exciting
because "perfect" limits thinking about "perfection".
That may sound strange, but if you look at it this way; "If
you have the answer, you will stop asking questions. If you stop
asking questions, you will never gain more knowledge and more answers."
South Africa is a place of questions. A place of thinkers. Of solution
seekers. It is a marvellous learning centre, and possibly the most
powerful learning centre of the world.
This learning centre has amongst its thinkers a multitude of diverse
tribes and religions, from all corners of the Globe. Forgive me
as I generalise in as few words as possible.....
From the East come the many followers of Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism
and Christianity. From the West and the North came the diverse followers
of Christ. From the South the followers, in the formal and African
traditions, of the religions of East and West.
Africa and India bring the spirit of humanness and community, of
ancestors and ancestry, of co-operation and caring. The West brings
the logic and production and "you can do it" individualism
and the North supplies us with precision, commitment and focus.
Wow! We have a lot to share in this amazing land. And all we have
to do, to realise huge success here and abroad, is to undergo a
cleansing.
We have all in some way been brain-washed by the past. To be separate
and colour-defined. He is black - she is coloured. Some of us are
still practicing the thinking and actions, which will keep us subject
to this evil mind programme. We have some choices.
We can all choose to change or keep our children mentally in Apartheid
South Africa.
Or we can choose to recognise, and be a part of, the wonders of
our diverse society. Companies that recognise the brilliance within
our multiple diversities will fly! In the same way our beautiful
land, ourselves and our descendants will surge to incredible heights,
when we realize that we are all in this together, all of us can
contribute and we all form a part of the very special "oneness"
that is South Africa.
I love our country, I love our life and I love that amazing uniqueness
that is us.
Viva South Africa - our miracle. Viva all living miracles and viva
You!
